Meta is in talks to acquire the South Korean startup FuriosaAI, a company specializing in artificial intelligence chips. FuriosaAI was founded by former employees of Samsung and AMD and focuses on developing chips that accelerate the operation of AI models such as Meta's Llama 2 and Llama 3. According to a report published by Forbes and seen by Al Arabiya Business, Meta is expected to announce the acquisition this month.

So far, FuriosaAI has raised around 90 billion Korean won (approximately $61.94 million) from investors, including the South Korean tech company Naver. The company previously stated that it is working with potential clients in the U.S., Japan, and India.

This move by Meta is likely an effort to reduce its reliance on the dominant chipmaker Nvidia, in addition to complementing its internal efforts to build more efficient AI acceleration chips. Meta recently revealed that it expects to spend up to $65 billion this year to support its AI goals.
